B.O.M. challenge: Week 2

This week I have had the opportunity to start studying the Book of Mormon. I have read every day, but between that and my seminary reading, I haven't really gotten that far. Something I'd like to share is from 1 Nephi, Chapter 2. In this chapter, Nephi first gets his own testimony. He says, "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father."  This taught me about the importance of effort in gaining a testimony. Nephi heard what his father taught, and asked God if it was true. He even says, "I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers." This hints that if he had not asked with real intent for a testimony, he might just be as bad off as his brothers. Since he asked and put in the effort, he gained a testimony and became a great prophet in his day, and a hero in ours. He was even able to convert Sam. I am grateful that Joseph Smith was worthy and willing to be a witness of God and translate the Book of Mormon for our benefit. I know that he was called of God. I am also grateful for the spirit that is with me wherever I go. I am grateful for my testimony and I know this church is true. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
